Sarthal, situated at an altitude of above 2150 mtrs amsl is a meadow in Kathua district. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, Sarthal is home to a village of Gujjars, they live here for only few months as during winter these gujjars migrate to the lower lands of Kathua and Jammu.

The region experiences heavy snowfall for almost 5-6 months in a year. Tourists from different parts of the country visit Sarthal as the region is considered as one of the most beautiful spots in Kathua district.

Riverine forests can be seen along the river banks of Sewa, Ravi and Ujh rivers which originates from the hills and mountains of Sarthal and adjoining mountains. Pinus roxburghii, Cedrus deodara, Alnus nitida, Salix alba and some Juniperus species can be seen handing along the river banks.

The spruce forests are found in Sarthal area at an altitudinal range of 2500-4500 m amsl. The common herbaceous flora of these areas are Gentiana indica, Primula denticulata, Berberis ciliata, Bergenia ciliata, Sinopodophyllum hexandrum, Potentilla sterilis, Barbarea intermedia, Anaphalis busua and Ligularia amplexicaulis.

The soothing noise of streams and gushing waters of Nullah nearby add to the beauty and Charm of the area. Visitors who come here can also appreciate beauty of Kharwah, Lowang, Nakhnoli Mata Shrine, Chhattergala.
