Chenani-Nashri Tunnel, also known as Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel, is a road tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir on NH 44. It is India’s longest road tunnel with a length of 9.2 km.
The tunnel will reduce the distance between Chenani(South) and Nashri(North) from 41 km to 11 km. Snowfall and avalanche in winter at Patnitop obstructs NH 44 every time there is a heavy rainfall and causes long queues of vehicles – sometimes for days at length.
The 2-lane tunnel will bypass Patnitop, Kud and Batote and will reduce traffic jams on NH 44.
The tunnel will be the first in India equipped with world class “Integrated Tunnel Control System” through which Ventilation, Fire control, Signals, Communication, electrical systems tolling will be automatically actuated.
People desire to go to Vashno Devi Darshan through Patnipoint to enter 9.2 kms tunnel to enjoy tunnel construction and engineerin skills. Govt of Jammu & Kasmir can allow tourists stand at Patnipoint to board buses to reach Vaishno Devi Darshan. Or otherend entry from Chenai, while returning to other parts of India by road or train. This will create big yourists business. All entry charges of tumnel is dirctly digitally connected to CM offices.
